CN launches 1st Student Nurses' Week

Bicol University (BU) College of Nursing (CN) – College Student Council (CSC) along with their student organizations launched the first Student Nurses’ Week dubbed as Cynergy: Create New Stories, Connect Our Diversities, and Cultivate Our Growing Identities last February 17 to 19, 2020.

The three-day celebration aims to recognize the efforts of the BUCN students as aspiring nurses and to fully develop consciousness and understanding among students of BUCN on the importance and availability of nursing resources in the country and worldwide.

On the opening program, Rev. Fr. Romeo Cirjuales Jr. presided the thanksgiving mass organized by Moral Welfare and Development Organization followed by a Color Fun Run around the BU Commencement Grounds. The activity dubbed Hue Matter aims to raise awareness for physical and mental health.

After the activity, the program proper commenced with CN Dean Dr. Maria Bernardita A. Palacio who delivered the welcome remarks followed by BU President Arnulfo M. Mascariñas who gave an inspirational message.

In the afternoon, the Eco-Amazing Race was held at the BU Commencement Grounds. The activity focused on building student’s camaraderie and teamwork as well as raising awareness on environmental issues. Afterwards, the highlight of the first day called Missed CN was held at the BU College of Engineering (CENG) Gymnasium. Contestants were male students from CN dressed as women as the event aims to advocate gender equality, empowerment, and a sense of responsibility.

On the second day, all BS Nursing students across the BU gathered at the BUCN grounds for the Philippine Nursing Students Association (PNSA) Day. Participants were from three Bicol University campuses, namely Main Campus, Tabaco Campus, and Polangui Campus.

The program began with simultaneous competitions on Quiz Bowl and Basic Life Support Contest. In the afternoon, a pageant called Search for the 1st BU Nightingale was held at the BUCENG Gymnasium. Candidates were from the three campuses of BUCN.

On the last day, BUCN-CSC along with partner organizations conducted an outreach program through Oplan Kalinga: Medical Mission and ENDCOV - BUCN Health Teaching and COVID-19 Awareness Seminar. The medical mission, offering medical services to children and adults from Barangay EM’s Barrio and BU was held at the BUCN Hospital Room 1.

Meanwhile a seminar was conducted for grade schoolers of BU College of Education Integrated Laboratory School (BUCEILS) regarding the Corona Virus Disease and preventive measures. The closing program was held at the BUCENG Gymnasium. BUCN-CSC President Jave Andrae M. Lotivio expressed his gratitude for the success of the event through his closing remarks followed by a post valentine’s concert headed by the Male Nursing Students Council and the Women’s Club.
