With the theme “BUCN @ 46: Building a Legacy, Transforming Lives”, the Bicol University College of Nursing (BUCN) celebrated its 46th Founding Anniversary this 09 July 2019 by honouring its previous administrators, outstanding alumni, faculty and staff members, and its students who recently passed the Licensure Examination for Nursing.

Historically, the BUCN creation can be traced back to the passage of Republic Act 5521 on 17 January 1969, which was enacted during the fourth session of the Sixth Congress of the Republic of the Philippines. This was the law that ultimately led to the birth of Bicol University.

However, the said celebration harkens back to 1973, where then BU President Dr. Ricardo A. Arcilla thought of establishing the College of Nursing, under Section 06 of RA 5521, with a separate budget and with its own internal administration. BUCN opened in 03 June 1973 with the admission of its pioneer class, composed of 34 students to its Nursing Proper program.

From 1973 up to the present, BUCN grew into a well-respected institution for Nursing education due to its consistent production of competent Nursing professionals throughout the years. Thus, in the celebration of its 46th Founding Anniversary, BUCN lauded the some among the many people that contributed to the college’s growth.

The celebration began with a thanksgiving mass, held at the BUCN Amphitheatre. This was immediately followed by a blessing rites for the BUCN Building and facilities.

The program for the anniversary celebration began with the opening remarks from BUCN Dean Dr. Maria Bernardita A. Palacio. The Dean also led the introduction of the passers and placers of the recent Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) Licensure Exam for Nursing who graduated from BUCN.

BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas was also present in the event and congratulated the passers in his message. Together with BUCN Dean Dr. Palacio, the BU President also led the awarding for the Board Passers, the Outstanding Alumni, the previous BUCN Administrators, the Outstanding Faculty and Staff members.

After the awarding ceremony, the activity proceeded with the oath taking ceremony of BUCN’s Faculty Club Officers 2018. This was followed by the testimonials of honorees and 2019 NLE passers Cecil-an S. Dalanon (Top 09) and Melanie S. Camasis (Top 10).

The achievement of the honorees were further recognized with the ceremonial toast led by BUCN Associate Dean Prof. Conchita A. Palencia. The program concluded with the closing remarks delivered by BUCN Level 4 Coordinator Prof. Lucilyn C. Ebuenga.
