DEPARTMENTAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Departmental Objectives

GENERAL EDUCATION

1.To provide the Bicol University students the general social science subjects such as History, Rizal's Life and Works, and Psychology, which are prescribed in their curriculum.
2.Through these social science subjects, students are expected to possess positive social values to become worthwhile members for the promotion of a  peaceful and progressive community.
3.The students are expected to understand themselves and others, as well as be aware of the rich historical past, to guide them as they chart their future.

PEACE STUDIES

A four-year Liberal Arts degree program whose purpose is to educate men and women to be experts in Conflict Resolution, National Security Administration and in the conduct of Global Peace and Security as envisioned by the United Nations Organization.

Course Objectives: 

1.To develop globally competitive social workers equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the social work profession.
2.To generate data that can help improve social work education and practice through the conduct of relevant researches.
3.To respond to community needs and problems by undertaking extension services in communities where social work expertise is needed.
 
PHILOSOPHY

A four-year degree course that equips the students with strong foundations and practical applications of philosophy. It focuses in the formation of moral character, inquisitive, creative and positive thinking, and in the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to make the graduates employable, globally competitive and productive.

 Course Objectives:

1.To offer a curriculum that has intellectual, ethical and development-oriented value to the student and community;
2.To engage in academic and related activities that will  develop critical thinking, positive values and the holistic skills of the students;
3.To undertake researches that will enrich knowledge, guide in policy-making, and promote development-oriented endeavors;
4.To undertake extension service activities that will assist in the individual and social transformation;
5.To venture into production activities that will promote professional and institutional development.


POLITICAL SCIENCE

This program is designed for students interested in understanding political problems and issues, the nature of the political process as well as the political and legal basis of political structures and processes at local, national and international levels.

Course Objectives:

1.To develop globally competitive social workers equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the social work profession.
2.To generate data that can help improve social work education and practice through the conduct of relevant researches.
3.To respond to community needs and problems by undertaking extension services in communities where social work expertise is needed.
 
SOCIOLOGY

This program provides the students a critical understanding of the dynamics of social structure and human agency in a globalize society. It also equips the students with a distinctive ability to interpret social laws and phenomena and the unique ability to apply this understanding towards social transformation and development.

Course Objectives:

1.To provide knowledge on the theoretical and socio-cultural realities to students, faculty and other stakeholders through substantive courses, method courses, and a formal practicum course.
2.To evolve a culture of research by equipping them with research capabilities towards a holistic human development.
3.To build partnership with the various stakeholders based on the knowledge acquired and research capabilities of the students, making them effective catalyst of change.


SOCIAL WORK

This program develops knowledge, attitudes and skills and prepares the student for beginning level professional practice as a social work generalist. Graduates of this course automatically meet the PRC requirements to take the Board Examination for licensing as a social worker.
