The Social Action Center-Diocese of Legazpi commissioned research team headed by its project leader Dr. Renelyn E. Bautista, BUCE Associate Dean, turned over on January 25, 2016, through BU President Arnulfo M. Mascariñas, the completed research on Profiles of Overseas Filipinos (OFs) and OF Families in Legazpi City towards a Model Framework for Migration and Development Organizing, to its partners SAC-Legazpi Executive Director Rev. Fr. Rex Paul Arjona and Engr. Joseph Esplana, head of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO-Legazpi).
The SAC-Legazpi commissioned research is an offshoot of the engagements with the Joint Migration and Development Initiatives (JMDI) implemented by UNDP and its partners IOM, ILO, UNHCR, UNFPA, and UN WOMEN, and JMDI-Bicol through LGU-Naga City. The said research introduced triangulated collaboration among the three institutions, namely, the academe, LGU, and Church as an effective means of organizing OFs and their families and mainstreaming migration initiatives into local policies and frameworks.
BU President Arnulfo M. Mascariñas addressed the partners and other representatives calling for more engagements and partnerships on research, encouraging extension with present partners through the expert services of the University’s faculty.
Rev. Fr. JC Omar Socrates T. Vita II, Head of the Diocesan sub-Commission for Migrants and Itinerants(ECMI) gave a message highlighting the vital role of triangulated collaboration. SAC-Legazpi Executive Director Fr. Rex Paul Arjona led the invocation followed by BUCE Dean Dr. Lorna M. Miña who gave the welcome remarks. Mr. Jose San Jose, President of the newly-organized Organisasyon ng Pamilyang Migrante (OPM-Legazpi), which resulted from the organizing aspect of the research, was also present to witness the Exit Conference and turnover ceremonies.
The other members of the Migration and Development (M&D) Research Team, following the triangulated collaboration, were Ruby R. Briones, Ronel M. Villanueva (academe); Ruth Rayel-Arcega, Maricel del Puerto, and John N. Bautista, and Fr. JC Omar Socrates Vita II (church); and Maricel Juloc and Joy Codorniz (LGU). Dr. Renelyn E. Bautista, project leader, presented the synthesis of the research along with the findings and recommendations.
A week after the Exit Conference, the said research output was also presented by the project leader to Ms. Cecil Relliant, UNDP Programme Manager (Brussels, Belgium) at Hotel Venezia, Legazpi City, last January 25, 2016 with Atty. Golda Roma (JMDI Officer), who turned over the JMDI Toolbox to the BUCE Associate Dean Dr. Bautista. Other local officials present were Atty. Melissa Abadesa, Mayor Noel Rosaland M&D Research Team.
