BURDC launches Twitter, FB, LinkedIn accounts

To further reach out to stakeholders in the Digital Age, the Bicol University Research and Development Center (BURDC) launched its official social media accounts in popular networking platforms.

According to BURDC Director Ronnel R. Dioneda Sr., it is high time for the university to creatively find ways for its research and development (R&D) outcomes to penetrate, communities, institutions, industries, and other interest groups.

He stressed that these potential beneficiary-adopters deserve nothing less than updated and scientifically-verified information that could stir-up public discussions, guide local planning and policy development, and promote functional collaborative engagements. With widened dissemination of R&D outcomes, the university will also fortify its niche as a vibrant partner for the development of the community.

This move is partly an offshoot of the university’s application for the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED’s) Journal Incentive Program (JIP). CHED Memorandum Order #53, series of 2016, applicants to submit proof of public engagements and influence profile of the articles featured in their journals. These could be citations in the print media, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, radio, and television.

Citations and number of reads are also required if the articles are made available in ResearchGate, a social networking site for researchers. Likewise, citations of articles in policy papers, white papers, memoranda, legislative bills, and similar materials are encouraged.

A list of advocacy or extension activities and conference presentations related to the published articles would provide proof of R&D outcomes, public engagement, and influence profile.

Dioneda further stressed that “with the prevalence of social media in society, it is about time that we use these platforms in reaching out to our stakeholders.”

He also bared plans to make available online the yearly issues of R&D Journal, the peer-reviewed scholarly journal of the university.

The BURDC social networking accounts are:
