Dr. Susan Brems, USAID-Philippines Mission Director, visited the Bicol Agri-Water Project (BAWP) sites in Polangui,Albay On May 19, 2017.
Brems went to the sites of Small Farm Reservoir (SFR) and Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT)-Demo Farm at Barangay La Medalla and Kinuartelan, Polangui, Albay, respectively.
In the SFR site, Brems talked to Mr. Raquion Ababa, who was able to plant rice despite the onslaught of El NiÅˆo during the first quarter of year 2016, when he learned that there is enough stored water from the SFR.
The Director was briefed on the economic and environmental impacts of the SALT. The visit was also an opportunity for Dr. Brems to formally turn over the Automated Weather System (AWS) to the municipality of Polangui.
Meanwhile, a focus group discussion on Seasonal Climate Forecast and Extension Advisory was conducted where Dr. Brems had brief interaction with 9 local farmer beneficiaries in the presence of Polangui Councilor, Municipal Agriculturist and agriculture extension workers. The farmers expressed their appreciation of the climate forecast that guides them in their production decisions.
