    HISTORY

Republic Act No. 5521, approved on June 21, 1969, gave Bicol University corporate existence. Although the law took effect upon its approval, the formal organization and establishment was on September 22, 1970, by virtue of Resolution No. 1 of the Board of Regents. Section 2 of the aforementioned law provides for the conversion of the Bicol Regional School of Arts and Trades of Legazpi City into the College of Engineering and School of Arts and Trades. It officially started operations in 1970 with two programs offered, the BS in Civil Engineering and the BS in Mechanical Engineering. In 1976, the College offered BS in Electrical Engineering. Two years later, it offered BS in Architecture. By virtue of Board Resolution No.41, series 1995 approved in December 22, 1995, the College of Engineering was separated from the School of Arts and Trades, the latter becoming the College of Industrial Technology. In June 2000 the College offered BS in Chemical Engineering and BS in Geothermal Engineering. In 2008, the BS Mining Engineering has been offered. Likewise, the Diploma in Architecture had its first ten enrollees during the SY 2008-2009 while the Diploma in Energy Technology , approved in 2008 by the Board of Regents, has yet to be opened for enrollment. The Master of Science in Architecture was later offered in 2010. Since 1974, when its pioneer graduates topped the board examinations, up to the present, the College had produced more than a hundred board placers in various licensure examination in engineering and architecture.

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE)                   Level II
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE)                   Level II
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)                   Level II
Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE)
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)                   Level II
Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering (BSEM)

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE)

The program develops professionals who apply the basic principles of science in conjunction with mathematical and computational tools to solve problems associated with developing and sustaining civilized life on our planet. Civil Engineering is one of the broader of engineering disciplines both in terms of the range of problems that fall within its preview and in the range of knowledge required to solve those problems. Civil Engineering works are generally one-of-a-kind projects; they are often grand in scale; and they usually require cooperation among professionals of varied disciplines. Some of the most common examples of Civil Engineering works include bridges, buildings, dams, airports, port and harbors, highways, tunnels, towers and water distribution systems.

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE)

Chemical Engineering is a profession that involves the conceptualization, development, design, improvement, and application of safe, healthy, ethical, and economic ways of utilizing materials and energy in unit processes and operations for the benefit of society and the environment through the knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, biology, information technology and other natural, applied, and social sciences, gained by study, research and practice.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)

The field of Electrical Engineering deals with the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electricity. It also deals with the design, operation and protection, maintenance, and economics of electrical systems with emphasis on ethical values to harness economically and safely the materials, and forces of nature for the benefit of society and the environment.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)

The program prepares the student to join a profession that concerns itself with mechanical design, energy conversion, fuel and combustion technologies, heat transfer, materials, noise control and acoustics, manufacturing processes, rail transportation, automatic control, product safety and reliability, solar energy, and technological impacts to society. This is a broad based curriculum that emphasizes the fundamental knowledge and skills of mechanical engineering and introduces new emerging areas in the discipline.

Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering (BSGE)

The Geodetic Engineering curriculum is designed to provide the students with an education in the fundamentals of geodetic engineering that will allow them to be immediately competitive in the industry or in graduate work while providing the best opportunity for achieving full potential. A Geodetic Engineering graduate is expected to be able to execute control surveys; mineral, hydrographic, and topographic surveys; photogrammetric surveys; gravimetric surveys; and astronomical observations. In the view of the comprehensive training, opportunities after graduation are very great and one is unlikely to find difficulty looking for work.

Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering (BSEM)

The program deals with the application of mathematics, natural and applied sciences, humanities and social sciences in mineral deposit assessment; mine feasibility study; mine design, development and construction; management of mining operations, environmental protection and associated activities and processes; and mine progressive rehabilitation, closure and decommissioning to harness mineral resources safely and economically for the social benefit of the country.
