Tabang Kang CSians: BU College of Science Alumni Association conducted Donation Drive for the affected families of COVID-19 pandemic in Albay.

Amid the COVID-19 lockdown in the country, Bicol University College of Science Alumni Association conducted “Tabang Kang CSians” project, a relief effort   which extended help to poor and indigent families and residents in Tabaco City, province of Albay.

The donation drive was initiated and organized by BS Computer Science 2017 alumni team and was launched on April 19, 2020. It received a total amount of Php 58, 124.51 cash donations and some in-kind donations from College of Science alumni and other individuals.

The distribution of relief and food packs commenced on April 28 and ended last May 11,2020 which reached a total of two-hundred and ninety families, more than the initial target number of two-hundred. The families who have been extended help represent the most vulnerable groups in 21 barangays of Tabaco City. These are pedicab drivers, senior citizens, street vendors and garbage collectors.

A relief bag contains two (2) kilograms of rice, a pack of powdered milk, four (4) canned goods, two (2) packs of dried fish, two(2) packs of biscuits and one(1) pack of bihon.

Four waves of distribution of relief packs were conducted to reach the two-hundred and ninety families

Tabang Kang CSians also provided snacks to a hundred medical staff and frontliners manning the checkpoints and providing safety and medical assistance.

Snacks were provided to 100 frontliners (brgy tanods, traffic enforcers, police officers, medical staff and volunteers).

BUCS Alumni Association and Tabang Kang CSians organizers are grateful for the cash and in-kind donations received. In these uncertain times, they are encouraged and humbled by the outpouring of generosity and support from CS alumni and other individuals.
