Nebres invested as 9th BU President

Marked as the beginning of a new administration for Bicol University (BU), Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III was formally invested as the university’s ninth president at the St. Gregory the Great Cathedral, Legazpi City, on June 14, 2023. 

With his vision of “A University for Humanity characterized by Productive Scholarship, Transformative Leadership, Collaborative Service, and Distinctive Character for Sustainable Societies,” Dr. Nebres is poised to lead BU into a new chapter of growth and innovation.

As a distinguished figure in the field of education, Dr. Nebres has a strong background in leadership. Prior to his appointment as BU President, he held various key positions within the university, including serving as the University Scholarship and Financial Grants-in Aid Officer from 2010 to 2017, and as the Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Services from 2017 to 2023. Throughout his career, Dr. Nebres has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to public service. 

The investiture ceremony was attended by esteemed members of the academe, government officials, local leaders, students, alumni, and members of the BU community. The event highlighted the confidence and support bestowed upon Dr. Nebres as he assumed the presidency.

As the ninth President of Bicol University, Dr. Nebres is determined to lead the institution with passion, integrity, and commitment to a student-centered approach. His extensive background in education, coupled with his strong leadership skills, positions him well to navigate the evolving landscape of higher education and drive BU toward a university for humanity through sustainable societies. 

Dr. Nebres succeeds Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas, who served as the eighth BU president for two terms, and is recognized as the first Professor Emeritus of Bicol University. | by Arnold C. Noda, MPS-1, CPRO
