BCAARRD endorsed papers clinch 120k incentive

With the endorsement of the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD), a total amount of ₱120,000.00 was awarded to Dr. Plutomeo M. Nieves’ published research papers.

The grant was under the Publication Incentive Program of the Department of Science (DOST) and Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD).

The incentive is a program that aims to motivate researchers, such as Dr. Nieves, to publish regularly quality research articles. Also, it aims to promote knowledge sharing by increasing publication record of DOST-PCAARRD and the network and facilitate application of research results.

The cash incentive ranges from P25,000 to P80,000 depending on the quality of publication determined through its impact factor among other considerations.

Two of Dr. Nieves’ papers were granted the publication incentive, with sixty thousand pesos per research thus bringing the total award to a hundred and twenty thousand pesos.

Both of the awarded papers were published in the Aquaculture, Aquarium, Conservation and Legislation (AACL) – International Journal of the Bioflux Society. They are entitled:

Post-Harvest Handling Practices for Glass Eels Along Rivers and Tributaries in Lagonoy Gulf, Philippines with John C. C. Nolial published last 30 October 2019 and;

Occurrence and Recurrence: The Fish Kill Story in Lake Buhi, Philippines with Antonio B. Mendoza, Jr. and Sandy Rey B. Bradecina published last 28 February 2020.

The AACL journal is published by Bioflux bimonthly in cooperation with The Natural Sciences Museum Complex, Constanta, Romania. According to their website, every article submitted to them is independently evaluated by two specialists before publication.

It also includes original papers, short communications, and reviews on Aquaculture (Biology, Technology, Economics, Marketing), Fish Genetics and Improvement, Aquarium Sciences, Fisheries, Ichthyology, Aquatic Ecology, Conservation of Aquatic Resources and Legislation (in connection with aquatic issues) from around the globe.

After the publication of Dr. Nieves’ research in the said journal, he applied for the DOST-PCAARRD publication incentive. BCAARRD endorsed both the published papers to the Executive Director of DOST. Dr. Nieves and his co-authors are all Bicol University Tabaco Campus (BUTC) professors and members of the faculty of the BUTC Fisheries Department.
