
BCAARRD holds virtual 33rd RSRDH
In order to effectively utilize research results in attaining the goals of sustainable regional development, the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD) annually conducts the Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights (RSRDH) on March 21, 2022.
Consortium Director, Dr. Marissa N. Estrella gave the welcome remarks followed by a message from Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas, SUC President IV, Bicol University and RRDCC Chairman, BCAARRD. Introduction of the Participants and Panel of Evaluators was led by Dr. Lester M. Narvaez, Consortium Deputy Director with the Symposium Rules and Presentation of Objectives and Mechanics given by Prof. Ronnel R. Dioneda, Sr., Regional Research and Development Cluster Coordinator.
Thirteen research papers coming from different Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) of BCAARRD were presented and evaluated with eight classified in the Research Category and five in the Development Category. There were 49 registered participants, 13 presenters, and six Panel of Evaluators.
The Panel of Evaluators for the Research Category were Dr. Fe dela Cueva of Institute of Plant Breeding, Dr. Editha O. Lomerio, Former Director of PhlFIDA 5, and Ms. Fedelia Flor C. Mero of PCAARRD – Inland Aquatic Resources Research Division. While the Panel of Evaluators for the Development Category were Dir. Rodrigo M. Aguilar of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Dr. Lily Ann D. Lando, Dr. Almira G. Magcawas of Cavite State University (CvSU), and Dr. Engelbert R. Lalican of PCAARRD – Technology Transfer and Promotion Division.
The winners were announced the same day where Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office V (DA RFO 5) bagged the best paper award for the Research category for their paper on “Community-based Participatory Action Research on Integrated Crop-Livestock Production in Lowland Rainfed Rice Growing Areas in Napilihan and Calangcawan Sur, Vinzons, Camarines Norte” authored by Luz R. Marcelino; Maria Christina F. Campita; Jasmin M. Dacillo; Segundo Sorita; Joy Villagen and the second best paper by Bicol University (BU) was on “Status of Coral Reefs in Lagonoy with Emphasis on Marine Protected Areas” authored by Antonino B. Mendoza Jr.; Romeo B. Asejo Jr.; Michael C. Borejon.
Meanwhile, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) with their paper on “Process Mapping the Prevalence of Salmonella spp. Contamination and Cross Contamination on Pork Carcass from Slaughter to Weighing at Selected Abattoirs in the Bicol Region” authored by Alberto M. Cabrera was awarded as third best paper.
On the other hand, Philippine Coconut Authority – Albay Research Center (PCA ARC) bagged the best paper award for the Development Category with their paper on “Utilization of Makapuno Liquid Endosperm as Stabilizer to Custard Coconut Ice Cream” authored by Josephine T. Nieva; Fria Lauren M. Jadulang; Nikka C. Barrion.
Another entry from CBSUA on “Pilot Testing of Taro Leaves Shredder” authored by Rolando G. de Asis; Julius L. de Villa; Jeric S. Laniog was awarded second-best paper.
Participants from the Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) with their paper on “Modified Mangrove Pens for Polyculture System in Mudcrab (Scylla serrata) and Milkfish (Chanos chanos) Production” authored by Laurence G. Almoguera; Vitaliana U. Malamug; Armando N. Espino; Marvin M. Cinense won the third best paper award.
