BCAARRD’s webinar series on the go
Coping with the new normal, the Bicol Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (BCAARRD) spearheads the Online Technology Dissemination Training series along with Bicol University – Extension Management Division (BUEMD) and the Philippine Association of Agriculturists Canarium ovatum Chapter (PAA – Bicol).
The said series features technologies generated by researches of different Member Institutions of BCAARRD. The pilot episode aired last September 23, 2020 and will continue until December 2020. Topics are aired live every Wednesday of the week.
Dr. Teresita B. Pequeña was the resource speaker for the first episode with the topic “Camarines Native Chicken Purification and Production Technologies.” Dr. Pequeña is a professor and researcher at Bicol University College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF). She is also a veterinarian.
People all over the Philippines and around the globe were able to watch and participate in her episode. Viewers from Palawan and the Province of Apayao were present in Dr. Pequeña’s lecture. A participant abroad also joined the webinar. Carlo Dagsaan wrote, “Watching onboard from the Netherlands,” in the comments section.
The second episode was led by Dr. Antonio P. Payonga on the topic “Establishment of Sustainable Upland Farming through the Adoption of Conservation Farming Villages (CFV) or Sagip Saka.” Dr. Payonga is also a professor and researcher at BUCAF.
Viewers all the way from the cities of Davao and Masbate were present in the webinar. Gilbert B. Cribe commented that Dr. Payonga’s topic is one of the most important technologies in Labo, Camarines Norte and thanked him for the discussion.
Dr. Plutomeo M. Nieves in the third episode, discussed the topic “Experiences and Lessons Learned from Income Diversification Trials: Seaweed and Squid Pot Fishing.” Dr. Nieves is a former faculty of BU Tabaco Campus and a multi-awarded researcher.
Participants from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources were present in the webinar as Dr. Nieves’ topic was on marine life. People from Rapu-Rapu to Cebu City also took part in the episode.
The fourth episode of the webinar series will air live on October 21, 2020 with Engr. Percival De Villa as the Resource Speaker on the topic “S&T-Based Sweet Potato Value Chain Development for Food in Albay.” Engr. De Villa is a Project Leader and Engineer II at the Albay Provincial Agriculture Office (APAO).
The registration form for the upcoming webinars is available on BCAARRD’s Facebook page. The evaluation form is sent via email after the episodes and the certificates, also by email, a week later.
The webinar series is shown via Facebook live at BUEMD’s and BCAARRD’s Facebook pages to maintain social distancing as BCAARRD still aims to deliver fresh and beneficial knowledge all around the globe, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
