Bicol PASUC unite for joint institutional cooperation

February 15, 2024

Bicol University strengthened its ties with eight other members of the state universities and colleges (SUC) of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges V, during the ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing of collaborations on instruction, research, and extension, at the Camarines Norte State Colleges (CNSC) Covered Court, Camarines Norte, on February 6, 2024.

The partnership was signed by the Bicol State College of Applied Science and Technology (BISCAST) represented by College President Dr. Alex H. Navarroza; BU represented by President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III; CNSC represented by College President Dr. Marlo M. De La Cruz; Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CPSC) represented by President Dr. Amado A. Oliva Jr.; Catanduanes State University (CatSU) represented by President Dr. Patrick Alain T. Azanza; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA) represented by President Dr. Alberto N. Naperi; Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) represented by Dr. Arnel B. Millesca; Partido State University (ParSU) represented by President Dr. Arnel B. Zarcedo; and Sorsogon State University (SorSU) represented by President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus.

The initial MOA is geared towards engaging in shared academic interests, training initiatives, research endeavors, and extension projects. It aims to seize opportunities whenever and wherever feasible, promoting the exchange of scientific materials, publications, and information between the nine SUCs.

Meanwhile, a separate international academic engagement was formalized through an MOU which will create a network for international academic engagements, collaborations, and projects in the Bicol region.

The last MOA is a collaboration between CNSC and BU, focusing on the adjunct faculty program. This initiative involves engaging BU’s faculty members to contribute their expertise through part-time teaching assignments in CNSC, which is aimed at enhancing academic resources, fostering knowledge exchange, and strengthening the educational capabilities of both institutions.

Through these collaborations, this strategic alliance is believed to bring positive transformations by reinforcing the commitment of PASUC V to uplifting the standards of higher education in Bicol. | by Arnold C. Noda, MPS-I CPRO
