Bicol University Visits Taiwan Universities for Knowledge Exchange

The Bicol University deans and department chairpersons from the Colleges of Business, Economics and Management (CBEM), College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF), College of Engineering (BUCEng), and the College of Industrial Technology (BUCIT) officially visited National University of Kaohsiung (NUK), National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NUKST) and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) in Taiwan last October 01 to 05 for a bilateral discussion and exchange of learning with the said universities’ officials, faculty members and specific non-teaching personnel, as part of Bicol University’s strategies to become a world class university.

Organized by the BU International Relations Office (IRO) under its Director Dr. Dimson M. Rivero, the BU Delegation, headed by BU-CBEM Dean Dr. Eddie S. See, is completed by BUCEng Dean Engr. Amelia B. Gonzales, and Prof. Domingo Ll. Nace, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Forestry (BUCAF), Prof. Edgar S. Barrameda, the chairperson of the Department of Entrepreneurship; Engr. Fernan D. Dematera, Engr. Gene M. Llorando, Engr. Rubylyn Alamares-Nidea, Engr. Erwin M. Logronio, and Engr. Junel B. Borbo, Department Chairs of the College of Engineering; Prof. Rubi R. Orbeta, Dr. Teresita B. Pequena, Dr. John Fitzken Da Vinci M. Niro, Prof. Alma O. Satimbre, and Prof. Allan Adonis O. Malvar, Department Chairs of the College of Agriculture and Forestry; and Mr. Gilmore T. Olfindo, Ms. Ginalyn A. Rustia, Prof. Alfonso M. Penol, Jr. and Prof. Joel O. Habalo, Department Chairs of the College of Industrial Technology; and Ms. Mary Ann M. See, staff of the BU Office of the President.

The National University of Kaohsiung

The BU Team was briefed about the National University of Kaohsiung by and/or discussed incubation of research & development outputs with Dr. Leon Shyue- Liang Wang, NUK President, Dr. Dong-Yih Lin, Profeesor of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Prof. Tseng, Tse-Fong, Dr. Min-Hao Wu, and Amy Mao, among others.

The NUK Counterparts presented their R&D outputs and the University’s Incubation projects. The BU deans/representative and department Chairperson, namely the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture and Forestry, the College of Industrial Technology and the College of Business, Economics and Management’s Department of Entrepreneurship likewise R&D outputs and Incubation status.

The National University of Kaohsiung Science and Technology

The Team visited next the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology where the members were shown the swimming pool-aquarium where scuba diving was demonstrated, and also the outdoor vessels and the indoor aquarium where groupers where being cultured.

And in a lecture hall, together with the faculty members, students and officials, they were oriented about the Department of Shipping and Transportation Management. The Officials who were in charge of the events were Dr. Ching-Chiao Yang, Chair of the Department, Dr. Hsiang-Chieh Chuang, Dr. Jui-Chung Kao, Vice Dean of International Affairs and Associate Professor, Institute of Marine Affair and Business Administration, and Dr. Wen-Kai Kevin Hsu, Dean of the College of Management (Nanzi Campus). They were toured around the campus by Kevin (Lun-Kai Chang).

The National Pingtung University

The Business Incubation Center of the University looks like a mini-grocery store where only university-produced goods are sold. Its most prominent and unique product is the less-salty soy sauce.

          

The Delegates journeyed by foot for almost two hours watching the caged animals rescued by the University. Because of a very strict university policy of no-picture- taking, the journey was not documented. (Dr. Eddie Seva See, Head of Delegation and BU-CBEM Dean)
