BU celebrates 54th Charter Day, Alumni Day; first-ever Induction Rites for officials held
On its 54th Charter Day, Bicol University marked a series of momentous events, including Alumni Day and the first-ever Induction Rites for the newly designated officials, deans, directors, and heads of offices, centered on the theme “BU is U: One Family, One Community, One Bicol University for Humanity,” on June 21, 2023.
The university splashed different shirt colors represented by the campuses, offices, and units as they paraded from BU Legazpi to the Albay Astrodome with more than 500 personnel joining said parade. The BU officials, deans, directors, and heads of offices also joined the celebratory march to the Astrodome.
To express gratitude, a solemn thanksgiving mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Rex Paul B. Arjona, President and CEO of Simbag sa Pag-asenso, Inc. The mass served as a moment of reflection and appreciation for the achievements and milestones of the university in the last few years.
The festivities continued with an opening salvo performed by the BU Magayon Dance Troupe. Their performance embodied the true spirit and exceptional talent of BUeños, captivating the audience and setting the stage for an unforgettable celebration.
The 54th Charter Day and Alumni Day celebrations were sponsored by the BU Alumni Relations Office (ARO), headed by its Director, Dr. Charina J. Cipcon, in collaboration with the BU General Alumni Association Inc. headed by its president Engr. Devar N. Robrigado.
Alumni Day
During the Alumni Day program, the celebration commenced with a video, produced by ARO, highlighting the achievements, events, and activities of the alumni.
Afterward, Dr. Cipcon shared an inspiring message as the ARO Director, followed by BU President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III, who delivered his own heartfelt remarks.
In his message, the 9th BU president stressed that “there is no little effort or insignificant work. Each work, each duty, is significant. Each person as part of the BU family is important. So, thank you to our brothers and sisters from the teaching and non-teaching who never fail to support us so that we can continue to administer and lead. Thank you to our students and to the parents, partners, alumni, retirees, and stakeholders for believing and choosing Bicol University. BU is nothing without You.”
Furthermore, Dr. Nebres acknowledged the departed members of the BU community and recognized their valuable contributions.
Afterward, the attendees grooved to the mass dance number led by Prof. Carina L. Sales, Director of the Institute of Physical Education, Sports, and Recreation. The officials, deans, directors, and heads of offices were called on stage to lead the dance routine, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere filled with celebration. The venue was made vibrant with different colors as the BU administrators danced to the rhythm of the celebration.
Adding to the excitement, Mariel Rose T. Reyes, a talented student from BUIPESR and a quarterfinalist in The Clash 2023 singing competition, delivered a captivating performance.
Afterwards, Engr. Robrigado delivered his message as the BUGAAI President and discussed the plans of the association, highlighting both past and upcoming activities. He also introduced the BUGAAI officers.
Inspiring success stories from esteemed alumni were shared during the event. Inocencia B. Olaguera, BSEEd Batch of 1948; Joanna G. Barbacena, BSEd Batch of 2022; and Gov. Edcel Greco B. Lagman, the Albay Governor, shared their testimonials, showcasing the impact of BU on their lives and careers.
Engr. Vincent A. Orozco, the Vice President of BUGAAI, delivered a message of gratitude as a fitting conclusion to the Alumni Day celebration.
The morning program concluded with raffles, games, and socials, providing an opportunity for attendees to reconnect and enjoy the event.
New designees took oath
In the evening, BU conducted the first-ever Induction Ceremonies for the newly designated Officials, Deans, Directors, and Heads of office at the La Piazza Hotel and Convention Center, Legazpi City.
Aside from the designees who took oath before the BU President, present were also the BUGAAI officers as invited guests, its President Engr. Robrigado, VP Engr. Orozco, Secretary Dr. Cynthia Mendoza, Auditor Engr. Rolando Dacillo, and Public Information Officer Aramis Balde.
This significant event recognized the designated leaders of the new administration who will contribute to the growth and development of BU through the vision of a University for Humanity for Sustainable Societies.
These remarkable events on BU’s 54th Charter Day showcased the institution’s unwavering commitment to fostering a strong sense of community.
