BU holds Workshop on Futures Thinking, Foresight for Student Leaders

January 2, 2024

To draft a blueprint for the institution’s directions in the next 30 years based on the student’s perspective, 97 college student council officers and 12 College Student Activities and Services coordinators across Bicol University participated in a Futures Thinking and Foresight workshop at the Gamboa’s Orchard, Malilipot, Albay, from November 8 to 10, 2023.

With the theme “Hiraya for BU Student Leaders: Empowering Student Leaders through Futures Thinking and Foresight,” the workshop oriented the select BUeños on the concept of application of future thinking and foresight and identified strategies on how the young leaders can become more active in the application of future thinking and foresight.

Workshop topics include identifying focal concerns, environmental scanning, sense making, scenario building, and developing strategies. Workshops followed each lecture session. The event was spearheaded by the BU Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight Committee, headed by Dr. Samuel C. Bobiles.

“Capacity building for futures thinking and foresight must be done across all sectors of the university. As such, the students as one of the prime sectors in the university must be equipped with concepts that will prepare their mindsets to what lies ahead. This capacity building for student leaders is the fourth workshop on futures thinking and foresight spearheaded by the committee. We encourage the student leaders to widen their imagination and prolong their plans for the long term as they continue conducting activities for the students” Bobiles said.

The event was graced by SUC President IV Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III by delivering an inspiring message. Joining him was Prof. Daves Tonga, Dean of Office Student Activities and Services.
