3 BU student-athletes bag award in regional archery

Four BUeño archers competed and won awards in the first-ever Bicol Indoor Archery Tournament held at the Freedom Sports Complex, Pili, Camarines Sur from February 26 to 28, 2022.

As one of the participating schools in the region, Bicol University sent four participants, three of which won awards. They are: Eurie C. Diamante from the Institute of Physical Education Sports and Recreation (IPESR), Mc Andrei D. Delos Angeles from the College of Engineering (CENG), Aivahn Kim R. Orolfo from the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF).

Diamante bagged four golds in the 1st and 2nd Round of Men’s Category, Single FITA over-all, and Olympic Round Individual.

On the other hand, Delos Angeles won two silvers in the 1st round of Men’s Category and Single FITA overall while bronze in the 2nd round of Men’s Category.

Meanwhile, Orolfo achieved one silver in the Olympic Round Individual and one bronze in the Single FITA overall category.

John Paul B. Madrideo from the College of Industrial Technology also competed in the tournament.

Other participating schools were the Camarines Sur Sports Academy, Ateneo de Naga University, University of Santo-Tomas – Legazpi, and Pio Duran National High School.

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences-Finland, latest BU international partner

In its continuing promotion for international cooperation in research and education and development of exchange programs to foster common understanding, Bicol University (BU) inked the General Bilateral Agreement (GBA) on international cooperation with Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK)-Finland on March 30, 2022.

The scope of cooperation includes the (1) exchange of scholars, (2) development of dual or double degree programs, (3) exchange of academic information, documentation, materials, researches, and publications, (4) development of joint research programs, and the (5) creation/organization of other joint initiatives.

Held virtually, the ceremonies commenced with welcome remarks from Dr. Jonathan C. Arroco, Dean of the College of Industrial Technology (CIT), followed by messages delivered by BU President Arnulfo M. Mascariñas and SeAMK President Dr. Jaakko Hallila.

For the brief university profile presentations, Dr. Dimson M. Rivero, BU International Relations Office Director, discussed BU’s profile of excellence while Marjo Arola, SeAMK International Education Services Head, presented SeAMK. They are also designated as administrative coordinators in the agreement.

The virtual signing was also attended by the respective administrators from the participating BU colleges that includes Prof. Roscefe B. Dy, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Forestry (CAF); Prof. Jean Annette S. Ibo, Dean of the College of Nursing (CN); Dr. Eddie S. See, Dean of the College of Business, Economics and Management (CBEM); and Dr. Herbert B. Rosana, Dean of Graduate School (GS).

On the other hand, attendees from the SeAMK were Heikki Rasku, Dean of Technology and Business; Dr. Päivi Rinne, Dean of Welfare and Culture; Dr. Anne-Maria Aho, Head of Master School; Dr. Ari Sivula and Dr. Taru Mäki, Research and Development Managers; Dr. Seliina Päällysaho, Research Manager; and Alaine Armario Hallila.

The event concluded with a closing remark from Dr. Luis O. Amano, BU Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension.

Regional Basic Research Caravan in Caraga Region via Zoom

In strengthening the regional promotion and advancement of basic research, the National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST V) will conduct the virtual NRCP Regional Basic Research Caravan (RBRC) for Bicol via Zoom on 04 November 2020, 1:00-5:00 pm.

Bannered with the theme “Nurturing Regional R&D Niches”, the virtual RBRC will feature NRCP’s basic research outputs, orientation on NRCP Membership, and opportunities under the R&D Leadership Program component implemented by NRCP under the DOST Science for Change Program (S4CP), among others. The results of the latest NRCP R&D Survey, which identified local issues to generate possible R&D programs/projects that can be implemented through science-based outputs, will also be presented.
