KUGOS Para sa mga Botante: BU-COMELEC V to forge alliance for voter education, registration
Legazpi City, Philippines—Bicol University (BU) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) V have solidified a joint effort for voter education and registration initiatives in an extensive outreach campaign with the theme “KUGOS Para sa mga Botante.”
Through this collaboration, COMELEC V will conduct a Special Satellite and Register Anywhere Project (SSARAP) on February 19–20, 2024, at the BU East Campus Gymnasium, in partnership with BU. To foster a deeper understanding of the electoral process and encourage active participation in the upcoming elections, this two-day activity intertwines voter education seminars with accessible registration processes and voting precinct transfers. This activity will be open to the BU community and the public.
Formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement, this partnership aligns with BU’s vision of a “University for Humanity,” currently implementing the Harmonizing Efforts: BU KUGOS for Sustainable Communities, a university extension program. Present at the MOA signing were BU President Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III; Atty. Maria Juana S. Valeza, Regional Election Director – COMELEC V; Atty. Maria Aurea C. Bunao, Provincial Election Supervisor; and other BU and COMELEC V officials and guests.
By combining the academic expertise, network, and support of BU with the electoral proficiency of COMELEC V, the “Kugos Para sa mga Botante” initiative hopes to empower and instill a sense of responsibility and participation of the community in the democratic process, especially during the elections.
