In Bicol University’s continued pursuit for being a globally recognized learning institution, BU’s President Dr. Arnulfo Mascariñas travelled to Manila last July 13, 2018 to participate in the British Council’s Times Higher Education (THE) Data and Branding Masterclass.

The said activity in Manila gathered the heads and representatives from the many higher education institutions (HEI) across the Philippines in order for them to learn the parameters of the World University Rankings. This is an important learning experience in connection to BU’s goals, as the THE’s World University Rankings lists the top 1000 universities in the world which makes it the largest league table to date.

The THE’s ranking is the only annually-updated global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. It uses carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.

In the gathering in Manila, the Philippines’ senior university officials were given insights on the THE’s World University Rankings, particularly the criteria, the indicators and methodology behind it. It also shared the universities’ participation and performance od South East Asian and Global Universities in the World University Rankings.

The session was also aimed at imparting knowledge and serve as a platform for dialogue with the universities on the topic of internationalization as a way for HEI’s to build a global brand.
