Another proof of Bicol University’s advancement towards becoming an internationally recognized institution was achieved this week as the university welcomes the coaches and student-athletes from the National Taitung University (NTTU) of Taiwan for a three-day BU-NTTU Track and Field Joint Training, hosted in the BU Main Campus in Legazpi City from July 15 to 17, 2019.
The coordination for the said athletics program was coordinated by BU International Relations Office (IRO), led by Director Dr. Dimson M. Rivero, and the BU Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation (IPESR), headed by Director Prof. Carina L. Sales.
In this joint training program, BU and NTTU student-athletes will be training together through lectures and field practices, designed through the combined knowledge of the BU and NTTU coaches. The student-athletes’ learning and training sessions are adapted to their current needs and abilities, in order to enhance their abilities and increase their chances of victory in competitions.
The visitors from Taiwan arrived in Legazpi City last July 14, accompanied by NTTU Principal Lin Hung-Yuan, and were received at the airport by Dr. Rivero and the BU-IRO staff. Along with Principal Lin, the visiting group is composed of ten student-athletes (mainly senior high school students), five coaches, and one group guide.
After arrival, the NTTU team were taken to the hotel where they would be billeted and were shown the Albay Sports Complex in the BU Main Campus, which will be the venue of most of their training.
The following day, the NTTU athletics team joined the flag ceremony where they were introduced to the BU community. In his talk, NTTU Principal Lin expressed his happiness in the warm welcome they have received and how they look forward to a fruitful joint activity with BU. During the flag ceremony and the NTTU’s courtesy visit with BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascariñas, the BU President also conveyed his joy in the university’s partnership with NTTU.
Once the visit with Dr. Mascariñas has concluded, the group proceeded to the meet their training hosts at the BU-IPESR, where they met with Director Prof. Sales and the IPESR coaches, faculty and staff members. Once the introductions and orientations are done, the NTTU students met up with the BU student-athletes that will be joining them throughout the duration of the training.
