BUTC Education Department spearheads panel discussion and seminar on Multiple IntelligencesWednesday March 7,2018
The Education Department of Bicol University Tabaco Campus spearheaded a panel discussion and Seminar on Multiple Intelligence in the Classroom last February 28, 2018 at Dean Geronimo Lavilla Hall, Bicol University Tabaco Campus.
Three topics were discussed in the panel discussion which includes a) Teacher as a Person b) Teacher as a Professional , and c) Teacher in the Classroom and Community. The panel discussants are experts and model teachers in the City Division of Tabaco. They were Mrs. Lenie A. Arienda (Bantayan NHS), Mr. Rigor R. Bueno (Mariroc HS), Mrs. Maria Cecilia Borjal (Tabaco Northwest ES), and Ms. Ailyn Borbe (Bantayan NHS). All panel discussants were the Outstanding Teachers of Tabaco.
Dr. Glenda A. Abejuela. The Experiential Learning Coordinator of BUTC, served as the resource speaker in the afternoon on the topic Multiple Intelligence in the Classroom. The seminar does not only focus on the 8 original Howard Gardner Multiple Intelligences can be used in the teaching-learning process or in the classroom discussion considering that in every classroom there are different kinds of learners. Differentiated Instruction is also highlighted as different kinds of student possess different kinds of learners. As Howard Gardner, author of Multiple Intelligences says” All human beings possesses multiple intelligences in varying amounts.”
In addition, the speaker gave some points on how to boosts the confidence in speaking in front and inspiring the students to learn. In boosting the student’s confidence, every morning after waking and praying, students should whole heartedly recite the mantra: I am beautiful, I am capable and I am Lovable. In inspiring the students, the sentences goes like “ If we are still alive, we can still learn and learn.”
The event was headed by Dr. Marlyn A. Villar, the department chairperson, and through the Education Club guided by Mr. Domingo B. Bognalbal, Education Club Adviser.
