BUTC's 2018 Education Week underscores pre-service teachers' readinessTuesday October 2,2018
With the central theme: “Millennial Teachers Coping Up with the Challenges of STEM Education,” the Bicol University’s Tabaco Campus (BUTC) celebrated the 2018 Education Week last September 24 to 26, 2018 at the Dean Geronimo Lavilla Hall of BUTC.
The three-day activity for this year’s Education Week celebration gathered all students from the Education Department of BUTC to take part in activities conducted by the Education Club, all of which were intended to showcase and boost students’ skills and abilities. This undertaking was primarily aimed to hone students in terms of their academic, arts and kinaesthetic skills needed for a holistic development of pre-service teachers.
Prior to the activities, a mass was celebrated on the first day and was immediately followed by the opening program. Speakers from the field of Education, who are seasoned teachers themselves, motivated the participants in their talk during a seminar in the afternoon.
Professor Rafael Buemia from BU College of Education (BUCE), Dr. Jeremy Cruz, principal of Pag-Asa National High School in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Legazpi City Division, and Ms. Teresita Almayda, a Special Education (SPED) teacher of the same school, served as guest lecturers.
Quiz bowl, essay writing, poster making, and preparation of indigenous instructional materials were featured during the second day. A microteaching activity for Mathematics and Science was likewise done.
The last day was reserved for some literary, musical and dance competitions, as well as the presentations from each group. Filipino games were brought out as the ‘Laro ng Lahi’ commenced in the afternoon. Finally, teams who had the highest accumulated scores in the competitions were awarded together with the individual winners for each of the events. (Sarina Mae B. Arciga- BUTC)
