Academe-Industry research collab discussed in BUGS ForumWednesday September 26,2018
With the goal of enhancing the culture f research among the faculty and students of the graduate school, the Bicol University Graduate School (BUGS) held their Forum on Academe-Industry Research Collaboration last September 22 at the BU College of Arts and Letters (BUCAL) Amphitheatre.
The said forum was realized through the BUGS’ partnership with BU’s Office of the Vice President for Research Development and Extension (OVPRDE) and was scheduled to coincide with the celebration of the university’s 49th founding anniversary.
The activity also looks to raise awareness and create appreciation on the importance of academe and industry research collaboration, as well as disseminate information about the BUGS academic programs to target clienteles. As per the organizers, the forum aims to contribute in the endeavour of improving BU’s research mandate in line with its vision to become a world-class university.
The forum began with BUGS Dean Dr. Antonio Payonga and BU President Dr. Arnulfo Mascariñas welcoming the participants in their respective opening remarks. This was soon followed by a discussion on the importance of research in the academe and graduate school, by BU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Helen Llenaresas, and an overview of the BU Research and Extension Road Map by VPRDE Prof. Ronnel Dioneda Sr.
The discussion about ‘Academe-Industry Research Collaboration’ was led by the forum’s guest resource persons Dr. Justino Arboleda, Chief Executive Officer of the JUBOKEN Enterprises Incorporated, and Mr. Erwin Vargas, the supervisor of Philippine Geothermal’s Public Affairs Office.
For the participants’ deeper understanding of the topic, an open forum where the attendees may freely ask questions to the resource persons was held, facilitated by BUGS Assistant Dean Dr. Ramon de Leon.
