UNESCO approves 2 BU student orgs membership; 2 awarded as Outstanding Club
After passing a series of screening procedures and evaluation, four Bicol University (BU) student organizations were awarded and recognized as accredited clubs by the National Coordinating Body of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NCBUCP) and the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO (UNACOM).
The BU Symbiosis, from the biology department of the College of Science, and The Associates, from the sociology department of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, were officially declared as part of the newly accredited clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines.
Along with other student organizations across the country, they were awarded with the certificate of accreditation during the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) held from December 9 to 11, 2023 at the Manila Grand Opera House Hotel.
BU Symbiosis was represented by their President, Cyril Jie Aycocho, the Internal Vice President, Angelica Callo, and their business manager, Alliah Ann Herrera. Meanwhile, the representatives of The Associates were Janna Alyssa Jacob and Kristel Naveza, the president and vice president of the organization. They were accompanied by the College of Science (CS) College Student Activities Coordinator (CSAC) Prof. Mheljor General and the chairperson of Sociology Department, Prof. Ian L. Relao.
10th year of PICE-BUSC for UNESCO
With its consistent commitment to uphold the thrust and goals of UNESCO, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Bicol University Student Chapter (PICE-BUSC) has maintained its outstanding membership as an accredited club for ten years.
On their decade celebration, they were awarded a certificate of good standing and was acclaimed as the 2023 Outstanding Club for UNESCO College Level under Science and Technology category. Additionally, the current President, Mark Remiter, was also recognized as an Outstanding Clubs for UNESCO Youth Leader 2023.
Other representatives of PICE-BUSC were Gabrielle Marie Eronga, External Vice President, Richelle Linga, Secretary General and Justin Olivan, Junior Official, actively participated in different activities spearheaded by NCBUCP.
BUHS Club is Outstanding UNESCO Club
Apart from the aforementioned college student organizations of the university, the BU Highschool Club for UNESCO had also attained its re-accreditation and awarded as an Outstanding Club for UNESCO under Culture and Heritage category.
The organization was represented by its officers Angelynn Carmi Bragais, Angel Marie Chan, Ma. Nathanielle Cardona, Carla Angela Rico, and Scott Matthew Belangel. Physical support was extended by Prof. Ronel Villanueva, adviser of the said organization, Prof. Rutesa Adornado, faculty member, and Dr. Ma.
