Uniform Assistance Program

September 20, 2022

Following an investigation into the needs of student nurses, the College Student Council (CSC) of Bicol University College of Nursing (BUCN) has started a college-wide initiative designed to aid future nurses towards becoming self-sufficient.

Dubbed “Angat Future FrontliNurse Student Assistance Program,” the project is a joint implementation of the Student Council and the BU Alumni Relations Office. Select bonafide students of BUCN will receive tailored-fit uniform and monthly load allowance, based on CSC funds and sponsorships. This initiative also prepares them for the awaited limited face-to-face classes.

When asked about the project, Paul Aaron R. Ala, BUCN CSC Representative and Project Head, said that the initiative is to empathize with the student-nurses and promote the student-helping-student cycle.

“What we want as the BUCN CSC, is for the students to feel empowered. Napakarami pong challenges ang kinakaharap ng students lalo na po yung mga from remote areas, far flung, and island provinces, hindi lamang po dun sa part na financial, pati na rin po sa physical, mental, and emotional readiness,” he said.

25 slots will be opened for the Load Assistance Program, with seven slots for Level I students, and six slots each for Levels II, III, and IV. Applicants are advised to notify their respective level presidents to become recipients of a monthly load allowance amounting to 200 pesos.

Meanwhile, 24 applicants will comprise each of the two batches of the Uniform Assistance Program, where they will be sorted out using a beneficiary pointing system. Family income tops the heaviest weighted points (40 points) among the number of family members (25 points), the recent electric bill (25 points), and seniority (10 points) as the presented criteria for selection.

The program, on the other hand, includes a referral system for nearby dorms and boarding homes, as well as a Monetary and Alumni Uniform Sponsorship Drive, where sponsors may provide cash and pre-loved uniforms such as Type A and B sets, Scrub Suits, Smock Gowns, and Delivery Room Gown Set.

The application period for uniform and load assistance opened last March 8 and will close on March 12, while the application period for pre-loved uniforms will begin on March 20 and closes on March 23, 2022.

Further guidelines, procedures, and mechanics are already posted on the BUCN CSC Facebook page and BUCN AY 2021-2022 Official Facebook Group. (Mc Luis Glen Aserdano, The Vital Signs, BUCN)
